LUCY CARR-ELLISON / INTERVIEW
05 December 2011

Who´s the first artist/photographer that comes to your mind first?

very, very difficult question.. Bella Howard, one of my best friends and an amazing up and coming photographer. Tim Walker, a great friend and a exceptional and inspirational photographer.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, where do you come from and where is your journey going to?

I don't really know how to answer this, I am from the north of England, now live between London and New York. I love a lot of things, photography happens to be one of those, and I hope to carry on taking photos till my dying day!!

How would you describe your style?

A friend of mine once wrote this, which I think describes my style far batter than I could ever put.. Lucy Carr-Ellison’s images frame the provocative lure a youthful spirit has to offer with emphasis on fashion and feeling. Her priority as a photographer is to create an entire character in his or her natural setting through deliberate choices in location, wardrobe, and props. With film as Carr-Ellison’s medium of preference, the photographs mirror the high degree of honesty and ease she values in real life.

Your house is on fire, what do you save?

Oh gosh what a hard question, neglecting the obvious of family and pets etc, I would stuff as much jewelry as I could into my pockets, my dear old soft toy which is a quite battered old monkey and my photo albums.

Something you want the world to know about you?

Urrmm, I dont think I have something that the world is desperate to know.. but if the world was my oyster I would say.. have as much fun as you possibly can. I suppose I should really chuck as any heir looms as I can into a pillow case.

Tell us a song that has haunted you.

I have a terrible habit of replaying my favorite songs over and over, my sister gets sooo annoyed by this. I just love so many songs, but i supposes I could narrow it down to Pulp.. always been obsessed. morrissey is a fav, ohhh but i always wanted to get married to Cannon in d Major, composed by Pachelbel, until i found out that this was very common, I will no longer be getting married to Canon in D major, but it still rests as one of my true favorites.

What keeps you motivated and inspires you go to on every day?

Well i hope that I have not yet so far taken my best photograph, I do hope that each shoot I do or photo I take is better than the last. This is sooo lame, but making may parents proud is  huge motivation. My inspiration is endless and changes every day, I could write an essay to this question!

What did you want to be with 13?

Since the age of 5 I have wanted to be an artist, sure here and there I wanted to be a pirate or a ballet dancer, but at the end of the day always an artist.  I remember when I was 6 I made a plan with my younger sister to have a joint shop, on her side was going to be a pet shop, on my side was going to be a gallery of all the paintings that I had painted of her pets... this has not yet happened, but who knows!! hahah

How have you handled the business side of being an artist?

I don't. I wish I could. As soon as I get paid I buy shoes and champagne, then I have no money again. I would love for someone to teach me the business side of things.

What can we accept from you in 2012, any concrete plans?

In 2012 I hope to be busy, busy, busy with lots of fun shoots, I hope to learn some wonderful new recopies (I do hugely enjoy to cook, really I am quite obsessed with food, I know something that should not be admitted) and personally what I am most excited about is that my sweet little foal will be old enough to ride, he is going to be a wonderful horse!! (ps he is called Boy, and I actually have him tattooed on my wrist after thinking this was a good idea on some rather drunken night out.)

italian or chinese?

On a hangover, Chinese. every other night of the week Itailian.
