CRAIG BERNARD / PORTFOLIO
16 July 2012

Notting hill (working title) started seven years ago my only intention was to make pictures. For the first 2 years I shot B+W, 3rd year I changed to color and gave myself a one word theme for that particular year portraits, dancers, etc giving myself this short brief turned the 2 day event into a whirlwind as I wanted to fulfill what I set out to do. Almost all the pictures are people oriented and because of how frantic the carnival is everything is one shot only. I only wish carnival was more than 2 days per year.

The Notting Hill Carnival is the largest street festival in Europe that attracts over a million people over two days and originated in 1964 as a way for Afro-Caribbean communities to celebrate their own cultures and traditions. Taking place every August Bank Holiday weekend in the streets of London W11, the Notting Hill Carnival is an amazing array of sounds, colourful sights and social solidarity.
